Classified as an Urban cluster. Roman city /Town. Civitas. Considered the initial core of the Roman occupation of Tavira. Outside the classified area and the Special Protection Zone will also exist by excavar aqueducts, more necropolises, industrial furnaces, a racecourse and suburban villages. The archeologo Manuel Maia considers that Balsa was a super port city, unique in Portugal in terms of its size.
