Information
It is located in the center of the village and dates back to the first half of the sixteenth century, following the elevation of the site of the Bishop’s Fountain to the parish seat. On the outside of the chancel there are two cylindrical buttresses crowned by 16th century conical coruchéus. The interior follows a design equal to that applied by the master mason André Pilarte in The Mercy of Tavira, consisting of a temple of longitudinal plan with three naves and four weavings delimited by arches based on Renaissance columns. In the chancel, manueline-style shapes are observed in the frames of the spans and the polynervated dome. On the main façade stands out the portico, cutout and composition identical to that of the side portal of The Mercy of Tavira. Its decoration is mainly related to Santa Catarina and renaissance decorative grammar. The finish of the main façade, with dynamic Baroque shapes, denounces the occurrence of works in the temple during the eighteenth century.
